Across the world, momentum is growing for the top end of the business to give back to the grassroots. While France has long been the outlier with its Centre National de la Musique scheme, both the UK and Germany have now launched levies on large shows, and conversations are live in Australia, The Netherlands, and other markets. So is it just a matter of time before levies to fund new touring artists and support grassroots venues and festivals become the norm?
This session will hear from those involved as we consider how commonplace levies might become, how funds are best spent, and just how such schemes might help develop the next generation of headliners.
